Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

Are your lights CASA certified?

A.

Our reticulated lighting and windsock illumination exceed ICAO standards for low intensity runway lighting, however, being solar powered they are not certified for use at certified aerodromes.
Our lighting is for aerodromes intended for use by aircraft with a maximum take of weight not exceeding 5,700kg; perfect for providing R.F.D.S Air Ambulance access to country aerodromes, air transport operations under CASR 135, or for private use.
There are no certification requirements for portable lighting. Our portable lights are ideal for emergency lighting in all categories of aerodromes, especially as they have the same intensity as fixed L.I.R.L. and require no maintenance other than to be left outside to charge in the sun.
Beware of companies that claim their runway lights are certified, but turn out to be certified as taxi-way lighting only and do not meet the intensity requirements of runway edge lighting.

Q.

Your lights don't have a lens. Do the LED's degrade over time?

A.

After years of exposure to the sun the LED's do turn cloudy, however, they do not loose any of their intensity and appear just as bright. Lenses, however, would block out the light as they degraded over time. The photo of the reticulated light on the home page has been in service for five years and as you can see has a slightly yellow hue to the light. This is unnoticeable to the pilot and appears as white light.
